The International Skating Union (ISU) has expand the Grade of Execution (GOE) from a 7 point scale (+3 to -3) to an 11 point scale (+5 to -5). Skate Canada is implementing the new expanded scale across all disciplines and levels (except Special Olympics) starting July 1st, 2018. Training will be available to all Skate Canada stakeholders, particularly judges and coaches, through the Skate Canada Education and Training Academy site (eLearning site) *.

The following outlines the training opportunities and the targeted release dates.

Skate Canada Training

1. 1. Marking Guidelines +5 -5 GOE Scale – eLearning module available through Skate Canada eLearning site. These eLearning modules will introduce the changes to the GOE scale and the guidelines
      • Singles (EN/FR) – July 5th
      • Pairs (EN/FR) – July 6th
      • Ice Dance (EN/FR) – July 16th (EN); TBD (FR)
   2.  +5 -5 GOE Webinar – available through Skate Canada eLearning site. These webinars will explore more details and practical applications of the changes to the GOE scale. These webinars will be facilitated by ISU officials. For those who attend the live webinars there will be the opportunity to pose questions to the facilitators.
      • Ice Dance (EN) – Live July 18th 6:00 pm ET; archive to follow
      • Singles (EN) – Live July 18th 7:30 pm ET (revised); archive to follow
      • Pairs (EN) – Live July 18th 9:00 pm ET (revised); archive to follow
      • Singles (FR) – July 31st
      • Pairs (FR) – July 31st
      • Ice Dance (FR) – July 31st
   3. In Person Sessions – depending on the competitions there may be in person sessions that provide an opportunity for further training, to ask questions and for discussion on the changes.

ISU Webinars – The ISU will be releasing webinars for each discipline (Singles & Pairs, Ice Dance and Synchronized Skating). More information will be available on their website.

Judges are required to complete the training prior to officiating their first competition of the season. Please consult with your section regarding any further training opportunities or requirements.
