STAR 1-5 Program Delivery
In alignment with the LTD Learn to Train stage of development an updated delivery standard of 25% class time must be provided to the skaters in the STAR 1-5 program. There are many ways to offer classes and examples are provided in the STAR 1-5 Resource Guide.
Instruction in all five disciplines of STARSkate must be provided to all STAR 1-5 skaters. The five disciplines do not have to be taught everyday but must be included in the skaters training program. The five disciplines are:
- Skills
- Ice Dance
- Synchronized Skating
- Freeskate
- Artistic skating
We encourage clubs and coaches to become familiar with the STAR LTD information. A new resource was added last season and is a guideline for training and competition at the STAR level. STAR Training and Competition Guidelines
Assessments
Ice dance – to align with updated terminology the “follow” skater will be referred to as Skater A and the “lead” skater will be referred to as Skater B. This is reflected in the updated dance assessment sheets, Dance Assessment Guide, Pattern Dances for Assessment Guide and other supporting documents for the ice dance discipline.
Gold Freeskate Challenge – There has been some confusion surrounding the challenge assessment of the Gold Freeskate level. A skater is to attempt both the STAR 10 Elements and Gold Program on the same assessment day. An exception to this is if the skater has already completed the STAR 10 Freeskate elements. In this case the skater would only be required to challenge the Gold Freeskate program.
