With the implementation of STAR 6 – Gold assessment program September 1, 2019, the following updates to test requirements for Competitive Ice Dance categories have been approved. These updates will be included in revisions to Skate Canada Competition Program Requirements – Competitive Rule 3, with the updated version posted July 1, 2019.
Pre-Juvenile
Current Requirements
- Must have passed the complete STAR 5 Dance test or higher
Requirements as of July 1, 2019
- At least one partner must have passed the complete STAR 5 Dance test or higher
Additional Information on New Requirements
- No change to level of test requirement
- Only one partner needs to meet requirement
Juvenile
Current Requirements
- Must have passed the complete STAR 5 Dance test or higher
Requirements as of July 1, 2019
- At least one partner must have passed the complete STAR 5 Dance test or higher

Pre-Novice

- At least one partner must have passed the complete STAR 8 Dance test or higher
STAR 8 Dance test requirements:
- 8A: Kilian
- 8B: Rocker Foxtrot
- 8C: Starlight Waltz
Additional Information on New Requirements
- No change to level of test requirement
- Only one partner needs to meet requirement
- July 1 – September 1: although the STAR 8 test will not take effect until Sept 1, if a team has at least one partner that has passed the 3 dances listed above they will be considered as meeting the requirements
Junior
Current Requirements
- Must have passed the complete Gold Dance Test or higher
To pass Gold test, skaters must pass four of the five pattern dances plus the creative dance.
Gold Dances:
- Viennese Waltz
- Westminster Waltz
- Quickstep
- Argentine Tango
- Silver Samba
Requirements as of July 1, 2019
- At least one partner must have passed the Gold A and Gold B Dance tests
- Gold A: Viennese Waltz
- Gold B: Argentine Tango

- Change to number of dances required to be passed
- Only one partner needs to meet requirement
- Creative Dance no longer a requirement to pass the Gold Dance Test
- Gold C: Gold Rhythm Dance of new Gold test is not required
