NCCP CanSkate and Regional Practical Coaching  Hours 

Effective since January 1, 2025, CanSkate and Regional coaches are required to complete practical-mentoring hours as part of their certification portfolios. These hours, which can be completed through coaching or as a Program Assistant (PA), are designed to support your development as a coach.

 We do understand that many of you many have completed practical coaching hours this 2024 – 2025 season and will allow you to use these hours to complete the chart that is located in the Portfolio document.

CanSkate Coach Practical Coaching Hours

The practical coaching hours is designed to guide you in fulfilling the required 20 hours for your coaching certification, which can be accumulated through coaching, and/or by serving as a Program Assistant (PA). We recommend you filling out the provided chart as you complete your hours, which allows you to briefly summarize each session. Take note of what went well and areas where improvements can be made.

If you participated as a PA, please include the coaching strategies you observed during the session and explain how your contributions supported the lesson. This reflective practice will not only help you track your progress but also strengthen your skills, supporting your journey towards certification and your overall development as a coach.

Regional Coach Practical Coaching Hours

The practical coaching hours is designed to guide you in fulfilling the required 20 hours for your coaching certification, which can be accumulated through coaching, Mentorship lessons, and/or by serving as a Program Assistant (PA). We recommend you filling out the provided chart as you complete your hours, which allows you to briefly summarize each session. Take note of what went well and areas where improvements can be made.

If you acted as a PA, please note the coaching strategies applied during the lesson and how your role contributed to the session’s success. This reflective exercise will enhance your coaching abilities, support your preparation for final certification, and foster your growth as a coach.

Additionally, please be aware that you must complete at least 5 hours of experience in the discipline of skills, which can include edge/turn classes, power classes, and warm-up sessions. Gaining experience in each discipline is highly recommended.

CanSkate and Regional Coach Hybrid Practical Coaching Hours

The practical coaching hours is designed to support you in fulfilling the required 30 hours (10 hours for CanSkate and 20 hours for Regional) for your coaching certification, which can be accumulated through coaching, Mentorship lessons, and/or by serving as a Program Assistant (PA). We recommend you filling out the provided chart as you complete your hours, which allows you to briefly summarize each session. Take note of what went well and areas where improvements can be made..
