As of September 1, 2021, Skate Canada implemented a new screening requirement (BackCheck) for all officials. You must complete this process successfully to remain eligible to officiate.
All BackCheck screenings are valid for three (3) years. Accordingly, many will be expiring in 2024 and require renewal. Skate Canada recognizes the time and effort given on a volunteer basis by officials to our sport and we are advising you that we will continue to cover the expense of this process for all officials.
To complete your screening (BackCheck) if it has expired, please follow the steps below:
- Sign into the Membership site, and click the “Officials” tab to access your Officials Dashboard.
- Under the “Screening” section, click “View/Update BackCheck Records.”
- In the top-right corner, click “Update Screening,” this will take to you the correct page to complete your BackCheck.
Should you have any difficulties with your BackCheck username and/or password you may contact BackCheck’s support team directly at +1 (877) 455-6730.
Once BackCheck assists you with your username/password, please return to your Officials Dashboard to use the link to proceed with completing the BackCheck request. If the link through the Officials Dashboard is not used, you will not receive the proper BackCheck required for the season. Skate Canada will not facilitate reimbursement for any incorrect BackCheck screening.
To be considered as an official in good standing, all the requirements set out on the Officials Dashboard must be met (and once met, will appear in green). You must rectify any non-compliant requirements (those appearing in red) to restore in good standing status.
All officials must be in good standing prior to attendance at an assessment day or competition.
For officials that also coach:
You must consult both the Coaches and Officials Dashboard to ensure that all requirements as a coach and as an official are met.
